Sankalp is in collaboration with Dr Prabhakar Kore KLE Hospital and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum to help strengthen the the delivery of care to the thalassemia patients. Jai Shiv Shakti Thalassemia Day Care Centre has provided immense relief to the patients.
The month of December saw yet another milestone for Team Sankalp. We took two strides forward in our mission to give life a better chance.
In December 2017, 3 camps were organised in Indore, Bhopal and Gwalior by Government of Madhya Pradesh together with Team Sankalp. As per the memorandum of understanding signed between Sankalp India Foundation and MY Hospital, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Sankalp, we organised HLA typing.
On 9-10th January 2018, we at Sankalp were honoured and excited to host a delegation from DKMS Germany including Dr Thomas Klingebiel, a very well known person in the pediatric BMT and hemato-oncology community.
Bone marrow transplantation continues to be the only cure from thalassemia.
Manish and Meena met in a family function, fell in love, got married and their sweet married life started. Manish was a photographer by his profession. Since childhood he was fond of doing photography.
In the last few years tremendous progress has been made to provide reliable and accessible cure from thalassemia. Patients who have a fully matched donors are getting cured with high success rates. Nevertheless, the families who do not have a match continue to wait for the right curative therapy.

Sankalp India Foundation and Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Hospital, Indore, a unit of the state government of Madhya Pradesh joined hands to start bone-marrow transplantation centre to cure the children suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell disease.
Anil and Manisha, both natives of Mumbai were married and leading their lives in the day to day hustle of the city. Few year later, Pradhnya, a little baby girl entered their lives.
For those patients who have related fully HLA matched donors (apart from siblings), does the relationship with the donor influence the outcome? We observed that there was a significant difference in outcomes between those patients who received bone marrow from a fully matched father and those who received it from their mother.
Whenever someone asks about the vision for our thalassemia centres – we mention we hope to close them one day! The intention behind the statement was to reach a point where every child who is likely to do better with the option of permanent cure gets transplanted and enough is done to prevent new births with thalassemia.
The second meeting of the Sankalp Cure2Children Network was held on 21-22 September 2017 at Ahmedabad.
