Transforming data in blood collection drives

Sankalp is committed to enabling delivery of better quality in each of the blood donation drives. A critical component in quality assurance is the systematic capturing of the data which could be used to quantify performance. Ever since 2007, when we started our blood donation drive, we evolved several tools which are used to assess the quality of the blood donation camp including feedback for each stakeholder, performance as against targets, noncompliance, complications, deferrals etc.

Irrational blood donor deferral refuses to stop!

Hemoglobin test is a very important factor to determine whether the donors, whether male or female are fit to donate blood. Drugs & Cosmetic Act permit blood banks to collect blood only when the donor has a minimum hemoglobin level of 12.5 gm/dl.  That means no blood bank should take blood from the donors who has hemoglobin less than 12.5 gm/dl. And, donor should undergo hemoglobin test every time he/she donates blood.

Sankalp celebrates the Spirit of 1000 Voluntary Blood Donation Drives

Sankalp”- A solemn vow of sheer hard work, determination, passion, vision and persistence to ensure that no individual ever dies due to lack of blood and to promote 100% Voluntary Blood Donation. A group of young students, who took this vow on 23rd May, 2003, have come a long way to celebrate the spirit of 1000 Voluntary Blood Donation Drives on 12th July, 2017.

Demand for Replacement – a disease we continue to suffer from

In 2003, we saw a man die in an ICU. The family of the man was running from pillar to post looking for blood donors! The pain, agony and helplessness led to the formation of Sankalp India Foundation. For some time after that, we continued to see blood banks as institutions where blood should be provided when when there is a need. We continued to maintain donor lists! As we worked through the blood requests - we realised that by waiting to donate blood when people need, we were actually ensuring that the family goes through very anxious time.
