For families battling thalassemia, every day is a fight for survival. The hope of a cure through a bone marrow transplant (BMT) often feels out of reach due to limited facilities and high costs. In a step toward changing this reality Sankalp India Foundation with the partnership of DKMS Foundation India and Cure2Children have expanded the BMT unit at Health1 Hospital, Ahmedabad.
On January 26, 2025, as the nation celebrated Republic Day, four incredible blood donors chose to celebrate in a way that gave life and hope. They came forward to support our HLA Matched Transfusion initiative, a specialised program that makes transfusions safer and more effective for children living with thalassemia.
Like many families affected by thalassemia, Arpitha and Kanthraj were unaware of the genetic disorder affecting their children. Each child developed complications and did not survive beyond the first year. Despite multiple hospital visits, not a single doctor informed them about Thalassemia, leaving them in the dark about its consequences.
At Sankalp India Foundation, every step we take is guided by one simple principle—to give children and young people living with thalassemia the safest and best possible care. Blood transfusions form the backbone of thalassemia management, and ensuring their safety is non-negotiable.
On their recent visit to Bengaluru, the Huron leadership team, including Mark Hussey, CEO and President, and John Kelly, CFO, along with senior leaders Costa Magas, Paul Praveen, Gulpreet Kaur, Anand Shanty, and Kokoth, spent a day with us at Sankalp India Foundation to learn more about our work in thalassemia management, prevention, and cure.
